A male, left, and two female mallards swim near the gear float in Bar Harbor recently. The mallard is the most widespread duck in the world. The mallard in habitats a wide range of climates from Arctic Tundra to subtropical regions. They can be found in both salt-water and fresh water wetlands. The ducks prefer water depths of less than 3-feet in areas with aquatic vegetation.
